Summer is one of my absolute favorite times to take family photos. Evening are the perfect temperature, kids are out of school and my favorite locations are lush + green. Tibble Fork is a favorite location for family photos for good reason. It’s a beautiful spot with hints of wildflowers and easily accessible.
Tibble Fork Family Photos
Tibble Fork Reservoir is located in American Fork Canyon. Click here to see a map of Tibble Fork Reservoir. From the Highland/Alpine area, it takes about 20 minutes to drive to the reservoir. There is a fee station of $6 for a day pass. So I’d suggest making a day of it and playing in the water after your session or hiking Timp Caves.

When to take summer family photos
Tibble Fork is surrounded on all sides by mountains, making it an ideal photoshoot location. But due the shadows and shade that the mountains cast, I suggest doing your sessions around 6-7 PM in the summer. For example, the photos above were taken in mid July, around 6:30. The earlier session times makes Tibble Fork ideal for families with small children.
How to make your session at Tibble Fork fun
Not to brag, but making taking photos fun is kind of my specialty. I absolutely love working with grumpy kids. We start each family session by taking a posed family photo + then we play. When I say play, I mean it! Here are a list of games that I used in this session:
- Ring around the rosie
- London Bridges
- Snuggle attack
- Have everyone pick flowers for mama
- Twirl with daddy
- Have a piggy back from daddy
- Catch the octopus (it’s a bigger hit than you would think)
