First of all, have you ever heard about a fresh 48? If not, don’t worry! A lot of people don’t know what I’m talking about. Let me break it down for you. A fresh 48 is an in-hospital session done within the first 48 hours after a baby is born. It’s a fantastic way to create precious keepsake photos of the first hours of your baby’s life.

You don’t need much to prep for your newborn hospital session. Here are a few items that I recommend that you bring to the hospital (hint: you’re probably already bringing most of it)
And that’s it! I will always have swaddles and bows in my camera bag if needed! I also have a complete guide for how to prepare for your session. You can find that guide linked here.

American Fork hospital is probably one of my favorite hospitals to do newborn sessions at. I love it because the rooms are large and have great natural light. My setup is very simple, no external lights or flashes are required. My approach is very documentary. I love to capture all of the moments that you might forget in the postpartum haze. I take pictures of the hospital, your room, snuggling with your baby, tiny details like hospital bracelets or the baby’s cute button nose.
