As a photographer in Utah County, each Spring I get a lot of requests for graduation photos. There’s no better way to celebrate your achievements than with a BYU Graduation Photo Session! Even though it feels like just yesterday, it was 14 years ago that I graduated from BYU myself! Here are a few things you need to know before booking your graduation photoshoot with Jenni Brinkerhoff Photography.
Book your BYU Graduation Photo Session Early
Spring is a very busy time for photographers, so please reach out early to secure your spot! If you are interested in booking a BYU graduation photo session, I would reach out to your photographer as soon as winter semester starts. This will ensure that you get the dates that you want + that you don’t have any conflicts with finals or final projects.
Plan for crowds
There are so many graduates each year, which means a ton of people looking to take pictures! This isn’t a bad thing, it just requires a bit more patience and photoshop (: I prefer to have my sessions early in the month of April because crowds are limited + the blossoms on campus are just starting to bloom!
Pick your locations and outfits
Some of my favorite locations on BYU campus are:
- The BYU signs on Cougar Boulevard
- The Maeser building steps
- The BYU sign between the Wilkinson Center and the new fine arts building
- The gardens behind Botany Pond
- Any building that has significance to you personally
These locations (especially the Maeser building) can get crowded, but with a little bit of patience we can get the perfect shot!
Choosing what to wear for your BYU graduation photo session doesn’t need to be hard! Bring your cap and gown, plus any stoles or honor cords. Then choose a more formal outfit for underneath your gown. Most grads prefer to have their gowns open, so what you wear underneath does matter!
