Highland Extended Family Photographer | Highland, Utah
As a Highland extended family photographer, I know how rarely you get your entire family together. Let’s make sure we document it! People often feel overwhelmed by the prospect of an extended family session. The outfits, the schedule coordination, the cost, it all feels like too much. But I’m here to tell you that it’s possible and it’s worth all the effort that you put into it.
Tips for your Highland Extended Family Session
Designate one person as the communicator for the family. That person will communicate with me about all the session details, sent out the location pin to everybody who will attend, and also make sure everyone gets access to the online gallery when it’s time to share. This is a great job for a type A, oldest daughter. They’ll make sure everybody stays in line!
Choose a location that is the closest for the youngest members of your crew. Have a new baby? Great! Let’s pick a spot that is as close as possible to their home. We don’t want people arriving already struggling because the drive up the mountains was too long. Additionally, you might even want to consider booking a session in your own backyard. There are a ton of perks to this idea (bathrooms, nap spaces, kids are already familiar with the location).
Choose the images that are the most important to you and make sure you tell your photographer. I have an extensive shot list that I work off of, but I don’t know everything that’s important to your family. So make sure you tell me!
Choose a simple color scheme that everyone can follow. You always hear photographers talk about neutrals and this is why! Most people already have some neutral pieces in their closet that will work well. For example, the communicator in the family would say, “Hey family! We’re going with navy, cream and sage green for family photos. This is what we’re wearing.” As simple as that!
