As an Ogden family photographer, I absolutely love spending fall in the canyon. The colors are absolutely unmatched and the location is perfect. This location is just a short drive from Snowbasin ski resort and right off of the freeway.
How to prepare for your Ogden family photoshoot
There are a lot of decisions that go into your photoshoot, from outfits to worrying about if the kids will behave, there’s a lot on your plate. Here are a few of my tried and true tips to get your family ready from your friendly Ogden family photographer.
Make a day of it! Explain to your kids what’s going to happen. Something like, “Miss Jenni is going to be taking our pictures tonight. We’re going to do our very best picture smiles for the first few minutes and then we just get to play together. After we do pictures, we’re going to go get ice cream together.” Hype it up! Pictures don’t have to be terrible. I try really hard to make it fun. We play games, tell silly jokes, yell the word “fart”…it’s actually the best.
Feed them first (and not in their photo clothes). Sessions often happen right around dinner time, so feed your kids before you come, or make sure they at least have had a substantial snack before our session. Hangry toddlers don’t photograph super well.
Change your kids into their photo clothes on location. Carseats can be a nightmare full of goldfish and other gross food, so don’t put them in nice clothes to travel. Just make sure you have double checked that everyone has all elements of their clothes before you go (dress, sweater, shoes, etc.)
Don’t freak out too soon. Kids often take a few minutes before they are warmed up. If they don’t smile on command, within the first few minutes, don’t freak out! This is totally normal. We often get the very best pictures towards the end of our time together, when kids are feeling comfortable and you are more relaxed.
